Digital Profile
Introduction
Many years ago, few people could realize how important can become a digital profile for their lives. Nowadays, in most of the global countries if you do not have a digital profile which helps others to identify you, to discover more things about you, you are not such an important person. A significant part of this research will focus on why and how a digital profile become so important for our lives. This section of this assignment contains a background of the problem, Current Research and Issues, Implications by the employers, students, a Conclusion and also some Recommendations. Furthermore, the essay provides some definitions of what a digital profile really is and how can it be linked like an employability tool.
Background
As the years passed, also digital profile has become increasingly important in the world of employment and not only that. The most social networks used for a job are LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. For example, the owner of Facebook profile can see not just people or photos which represents their activity, Facebook is also about places, business, institutions, ideas which can become very important in the employability world.
The use of digital profile in higher education starting to obtain a lot of attention. A digital profile can contain: skills and competences, online evidences of achievement, plans and opportunities for the future. As stated in (Little, 2003) in Canada and USA, individual student portfolios are most likely methods for evidencing employability skills.
There some benefits of focusing also on employability. First one is the benefit of students motivations for entering higher education for example: studying a subject that is really suitable, to have a professional career and to gain entrance to a well-paid career. Also the Governments invests in higher education is the improvement which helps the expansion of the country's human capital.
Employability can be defined as "a set of achievements-skills, understanding and personal attributes, that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations". (Yorke, 2004)
Current Research
The online advertise is ever changing and employers and students have to carry on with these changing trends. Respectively, an increase in employers and student inquiry for employment chances on social networking sites. As stated in Carlino, 2011) the aspirants are 20% more likely to find a job online. The analysis behind this increase usage of social networks for giving employment conveniences is because to its low cost forms- frequently, it is a virtually cost-free search for these online opportunities. (Sheikh and Panicker, 2012)
Research has shown that there is a difference in the stage of employers and students. LinkedIn is seen as a better version within the world of employability than Facebook as allows people to have a more particularly profile around job experience and arrangement background. Furthermore, LinkedIn holds also a "Job Search" tab which allows employers to publish things and make the people to apply to them, without any charge of cost (Sheikh and Panicker, 2012). Basically, social sites provide to the people a much ample perceptive of the application. An aspirant can be aware who posted a vacancy, making the job search more individual than mailing to "whomever it may concern". Also a person which use a digital profile can encounter some issues. For example, some digital profiles can contain general costs, or take-up problems if they are not in extensive and favorable use in a university. Also, digital profile may suffer practical issues for some placement, because they need access to internet and employer "buy-in". Employers and students may find it difficult to use a digital profile it it brings massively populated as piece of a file through university to workplace. General digital profiles need to be supplied with
attributes that have to be drawn on various forms for various purposes and there is some research that students do not find this such flexible. They are likely to use familiar tools to build what they want and when they want it. Apparently, students are more likely to value paper product, and some employers will only take in consideration that paper version, or at least one that cam be just emailed.
Implications
Self-promotion has many advantages and is it particularly important when academics are pushing for administration and promotion and concerned about who is reading this and where are they being cited. A well done digital profile will determine more community engagement, which affects one's work indirectly. For example, if you have a very clear and concise CV which reflects all the acknowledgement and rewards that you gain over time you are more likely to get a job before others. A short and accessible summary about your experience so far, will determine the employers to look carefully to the digital profile. Another advantage is that through a digital profile can get diverse and immediate feedback from audiences from many that they would not have had approach before. Sherma and Thelwall (2012) outlined, that over 70% of the bloggers in their sample of 126 active research had active Twitter that conducted followers to their blogs. ( Davis et all, 2013)
Recommendations and Conclusion
An important recommendation is, if you have a very clear and concise digital profile that reflects your professional skills in a clear and concise way, you are more likely to be contacted by someone and get a job interview. Also,If you can promote your digital profile and make it stronger and stronger, employers will understand that you are the best man for this job and they will pick you instead of others. For having a good digital profile, every university should provide for its students a lot of examples and facilities to help them with their profiles and making look much better. Also is important every student type all the skills that have been acquired throughout the educational process.
Moreover, there has to be a sense of collaboration between the educational management systems and employers, to provide the best opportunity for getting a good job for students, and employers to search for their man power. In conclusion, it can be said that digital profiles help as an different judgment of the learner'educational improvements. Tutors, will be capable to classify their students and come up with an almost ample documentary's of the learner's reactions.(Jwaifell, 2013)
